Staci Warden has been named the new CEO of the Algorand Foundation. She takes over the helm from out-going Chief, Sean Lee.
On Thursday, the 10th of February, the Algorand Foundation announced that – as of the day – board member Staci Warden would be stepping in as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Algorand. Warden takes over the helm from former CEO, Sean Lee.
Sean Lee, after serving as the Algorand Foundation’s CEO for 18 months, has stepped down to pursue other career interests in the blockchain industry. Stepping-in in his place is Staci Warden, who has served the foundation as a board member since September 2021.
“I’ve decided to leave the Algorand Foundation to pursue new opportunities in the blockchain space. Seeing the transformative potential of the applications being built on Algorand, now is the time for me to explore those avenues; and I have deep confidence in Staci’s ability to lead the Algorand Foundation and the Algorand ecosystem through its next growth phase,” commented Lee.
The new Algorand chief executive brings with her a wealth of experience from the financial industry, having led global teams at the Milken Institute JP Morgan, as well as the Nasdaq stock exchange. Her expertise – it is hoped – will help steer the Algorand Foundation to a new level of growth, for both the Algorand ecosystem, as well as the entire crypto industry.
As the adoption of digital assets accelerates, this year and onward – especially in the way of global crypto-based payment platforms, NFT’s, and Defi (Decentralized Finance) – Algorand is committed to positioning itself as a building block for the emerging digital-first economic model. The Foundation is also focused on ensuring that the Algorand network is inclusive, and allows for the global availability of the financial benefits afforded by a blockchain-based economy.
“1.7 billion people in the world do not have access to finance, and the Algorand protocol has the speed, the security, and the decentralization to address the problem of global financial inclusion at scale” Stated Warden after expressing her excitement at prospectively building upon the that the foundation has achieved this far. Warden also stated her commitment to scaling Algorand’s commitments to the network’s community and global partners.
“By both ratcheting up our global ambitions as well as doubling down on our commitment to the DeFi ecosystem, I know that we will deliver tremendous value for both the Algorand ecosystem as a whole and the end-users it supports.” – Warden
Kieron Guilfoyle, the Algorand Foundation board’s chairman chimed his support for the incoming CEO, stating “Staci understands the potential for Algorand to become a dominant Layer One blockchain, and she has the experience and expertise to drive our global efforts to scale and to deliver outstanding value to our community. I know she will waste no time in shifting the Algorand Foundation into its expansion phase.”
