Solana Bots’ 3x Edge Puts Order Routing Under the Spotlight

Solana automated trading bot network with neon data streams representing routing and market maker activity

New research into Solana’s automated trading found that a tiny cluster of bots posted profitable outcomes roughly three times as often as their peers, and the common thread was how they routed orders. The finding sharpens a question every active Solana trader eventually faces: how much of on-chain edge comes from strategy, and how much comes from the infrastructure a bot chooses to trade through.

What Happened

The study examined bot activity on Solana and flagged a stark gap in results. Transactions that passed through a proprietary automated market maker the researchers identified as HumidiFi ended with a positive wrapped-SOL balance change about 62.3% of the time, versus roughly 21% for a comparison set. That near-threefold difference was concentrated in a single group of only about a dozen addresses that routed heavily through Jupiter and invoked several proprietary venues.

The authors were careful to frame the split as association rather than causation. A 12-address group is far too small to prove that any one protocol confers an edge, and the cluster’s behavior looked MEV-like, meaning it may have been positioned to capture value from transaction ordering rather than simply picking better trades. A separate, larger cluster of roughly 100 addresses routed the bulk of its activity through the Pump.fun ecosystem instead.

What It Means for Traders

The practical signal is that routing is a variable, not a detail. On a high-throughput chain like Solana, where blocks are fast and ordering matters, the venues and aggregators a bot touches can shape execution quality as much as the entry thesis. For anyone running or copying automated strategies, the path an order takes through AMMs and aggregators deserves the same attention as the signal that triggered it.

It is equally a caution against overreading a small sample. A 62% win rate across a dozen addresses is a lead worth investigating, not a blueprint to copy blindly, and MEV-like activity is notoriously hard for ordinary participants to replicate. Traders active in the memecoin corner of Solana, where much of this bot flow lives, can weigh the research against ecosystem shifts like those we noted when launch activity migrated across Solana platforms.

The Bigger Picture

The research touches a structural feature of modern on-chain markets: proprietary AMMs and sophisticated routing can create tiers of participation that are invisible on a simple price chart. If a narrow set of actors can consistently extract more value by wiring themselves into the right plumbing, the playing field is less flat than the “permissionless” label suggests. That is a fairness question the ecosystem will keep wrestling with.

It also arrives as Solana draws steadily more institutional attention, a trend visible in flows like the ones we covered when Solana ETFs began attracting institutional demand. As bigger, more professional players enter, the value of infrastructure-level edges tends to rise, and the gap between retail bots and industrial trading operations can widen rather than close.

For traders, the honest conclusion is nuance. The data hints that where and how you route on Solana can matter, but a small, MEV-flavored sample cannot tell you that any single protocol is a reliable edge. The more durable habit is to study execution as seriously as strategy, and to treat eye-catching win rates as an invitation to dig deeper rather than a shortcut to follow.
