Ethereum Nears a Market Bottom Against Bitcoin, Onchain Data Hints

Ethereum is showing early signs of a market bottom against Bitcoin, with ether now trading below its realized price and several onchain indicators pointing to easing selling pressure. For traders, the key fact is that the ETH/BTC ratio, one of the most watched relative-value gauges in crypto, may be carving out a base, even if a confirmed cycle bottom has not yet arrived.

What Happened

Onchain analysts flagged that ether is changing hands beneath its realized price, the aggregate cost basis of the coins on the network. When an asset trades below realized price, the average holder is underwater, a condition that has historically clustered around major bottoms rather than tops.

Alongside that, indicators tracking spending behavior suggested selling pressure is fading and underlying demand is beginning to recover. The caveat from the same data is that these signals remain unconfirmed. Several metrics that typically flip decisively at a cycle low have not yet done so, leaving the picture constructive but incomplete.

What It Means for Traders

Trading below realized price is a valuation signal, not a timing signal. It tells traders that ether is historically cheap relative to what the market paid for it, but it does not guarantee an immediate turn. Assets can grind below cost basis for extended stretches before demand overwhelms supply.

The ETH/BTC ratio is the sharper lens here. A base in that ratio would suggest ether is ready to stop bleeding value against Bitcoin, which has dominated relative performance for much of the cycle. That matters for portfolio positioning across altcoins, since ETH/BTC often sets the tone for the broader altcoin complex. A firming ratio has historically preceded periods when capital rotates out of Bitcoin and into ether and higher-beta tokens. This connects to the question of whether Ethereum dominance can push toward 10% without a clear catalyst.

Because the signals are unconfirmed, the disciplined read is to treat this as an area of interest rather than a completed bottom. Traders often wait for confirmation from momentum and structure before leaning on a reversal thesis, a theme explored in the recent look at Ethereum’s daily RSI divergence and what the chart is showing.

The Bigger Picture

Ether’s relative weakness against Bitcoin has been one of the defining trades of the cycle, driven by heavy Bitcoin ETF demand, a strong institutional bid for BTC as a reserve asset, and a slower narrative rotation into Ethereum. A durable ETH/BTC bottom would mark a shift in that dynamic and could reset expectations for the next phase of the market.

Fund flows will be central to whether this base holds. Ether has struggled at times against a backdrop of ETF outflows, even as demand for other assets stayed firm, a divergence visible when Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF outflows clashed with XRP and HYPE demand. If ether-focused products begin to attract sustained inflows while onchain cost-basis signals hold, the case for a confirmed bottom strengthens considerably.

Conclusion

The onchain evidence points to Ethereum building a base against Bitcoin, with ether below realized price and selling pressure easing. But unconfirmed signals mean the bottom is a developing thesis, not a settled fact. Traders watching the ETH/BTC ratio and fund flows will get the clearest early read on whether this is the turn or just another pause in a long relative downtrend.
